Sonepar's founder, Henri Coisne, received training at a flying school in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and bravely fought to free his home country of France from Nazi occupation during World War II. He continued his military career, rising from a pilot to commander of the French 2/92 Aquitaine squadron. Henri retired from the army in 1962 to join the business world, founding the company that would become Sonepar in 1969.
